About San Gabriel
The city grew up around Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, founded in 1771, and the Mission District still anchors its historic core alongside the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse. Valley Boulevard is one of the San Gabriel Valley's best-known dining corridors, and San Gabriel and Las Tunas carry much of the city's neighborhood retail. Residential streets are a mix of early-20th-century homes and post-war ranch houses, many on generous lots.
